‘The Rembrandt Exploration’ in Amsterdam

The most famous Dutch painter is Rembrandt van Rijn and is generally regarded as one of the greatest painters and etchers in European art. He made around three hundred paintings, three hundred etchings and two thousand drawings.

Being a son of a miller he was born and raised in Leiden. At the age of 25 he settles in Amsterdam and never leaves again. The art and history of Rembrandt can therefore be found throughout the city.

Most of his work can be found in the Rijksmuseum, including the world famous ‘The Night Watch’. Other parts of his work can be viewed in the Rembrandt house, where he lived and worked for 20 years, and in the Hermitage.

‘See and Do’ tour

If you really want to delve into Rembrandt’s history, you gotta follow this ‘See and Do‘ tour. This can certainly be done on foot but perhaps more convenient to use public transport every now and then. It is most advantageous if you purchase an ‘I Amsterdam City Card‘ for this. Then most of the entrances to the museums and public transport are arranged.

Another tip is to add the ‘Molen van Sloten’ in this tour. Tram 2 is the easiest way to reach this location. Here you can see an exhibition of Rembrandt in the ‘Kuiperijmuseum’.
